Omaha, Nebraska

Wow, the mighty Missouri is still really high. The gorgeous houses along the river are awfully close to the water. Just arrived in another new city: Omaha. Have never been here so this will be fun. My friends have been here before so they know where to go downtown.

The downtown is named The Old market and is full of art and entertainment in these old renovated buildings. There is the old Anheuser-Busch Beer Depot from 1887, the Skinner Macaroni Building from 1914 (I like the name!), and the J.P Cooke Building from 1885 which was the first municipal swimming pool. It is a walking tour area with many other historic spots.

Dinner was at Upstream Brewing Company, right in the heart of The Old market. Everything looked good from the Blond Pizza to the Beer Battered Fish and Chips. I wavered between the Fish and Chips and the Mac and Cheese. I went with the Upstream Mac and Cheese. Yummy! Made with cavatappi pasta (spiral tube shape), ham, smoked cheese sauce, and topped with jack cheese and scallions. Huge portion with enough for lunch the next day! Coat: $10.99. Worth every penny.

Since it was Happy Hour, my friend chose two appetizers for his main meal and also had enough for lunch the next day. He had the Chicken Wings which were 6 spicy wings served with a bleu cheese dressing as well as the Mojo Chicken Quesadilla, served with mushrooms, cumin sour cream, tomato chipotle salsa and a corn salsa. Homemade root beer from the bar tap was the beverage of choice.

I would go back to Upstream Brewing to try something else on the menu and to have the root beer on tap!
