Lakeville, MN

Decided over the weekend that we wanted to do a buffet. Now, having been to the buffets in Las Vegas I guess I was expecting a lot more. We picked an odd location to try: the Market Grill at the new HyVee grocery store in Lakeville. ” Hy-Vee Market Grille is a full-service restaurant where the goal is to serve great food at a great value in a great atmosphere.”

Going over the buffet before ordering we both decided that it was certainly NOT worth the $20 entrance fee. They offered about 12 chafing dishes and a few pastry trays as well as a build-your-own omelet station. Imagining again the buffets we’ve had before this was not it. We didn’t give up and chose a couple of items off the menu.

I found a breakfast veggie bagel and ordered a side of hash browns (of course!). It was really good and I am glad I made the choice. Sesame bagel with grilled zucchini, peppers, onions, a tomato, sprouts. They only offer it on Sundays so don’t be looking for it on the menu any time during the week.

My husband always has a go to item if he can find it: biscuits and gravy. Well, he found it on the menu, ordered it along with a side of hash browns (of course). He said they were okay, but very heavy. The total for both of us was the same price as one buffet!

I’m on the fence as to going back or not. The buffet I do not think was worth the effort so maybe try another one of their specials during the week? Stay tuned to see what we decide! Other reviews can be found through TripAdvisor as well.

Dallas, Texas

In the middle of all this stormy weather I made it to Dallas. I love Dallas. Just not in the summer!

Staying at the Marriott in Westlake. A little out there, but managed to navigate all the construction. What a very modern hotel and the associates were very nice as well. Decided to have breakfast at the Cielo Restaurant in the hotel. The choice was the menu or the breakfast buffet. Though the buffet was tempting I went with the menu.

Chose the 3 blueberry pancakes with 3 strips of  bacon. The pancakes were almost the size of the plate and the bacon was done just to a crisp! I enjoyed every morsel for about $10. My companions enjoyed their breakfasts as well. Buttermilk pancakes and bacon for one and corned beef has for my other two guests. Each was approximately $10.

The food was good, the company was fantastic and I look forward to visiting Dallas again. The next time it will be for a longer stay!

Grand Forks, ND

Have you ever been to Grand Forks, ND? I haven’t but I am here! Staying at the CanadInn, which is a small resort in the middle of nowhere. There are 4 restaurants to choose from so I decided on the buffet at Aaltos Garden Cafe. This way I can make my own meal and have dessert, too.

Started with a great salad from the salad bar with fresh vegetables. Next I went for the Chicken Penne Rose as well as a slice of  the Southwestern Chicken Quesadilla. The Chicken Penne Rose included bell peppers, mushrooms, red onions, tomatoes and homemade rose sauce. For those who need gluten-free, the penne fits the bill! Now on to the quesadilla. The chicken was grilled with bacon, tomato, green onion and marble cheese and served in a flour tortilla, topped with salsa and sour cream. Yum to both entrees!

Aaltos makes their own soft serve ice cream so you can make your own root beer float. Who could resist? Paired that with a 7 layer bar in a bowl topped with more soft serve ice cream and chocolate sauce. Cost $14.95. Never got to the homemade soups and breads! Too bad I couldn’t get a to-go box for later snacking!

May try to visit again to try a different restaurant!
